Transform Fest | Embodiment Project & Jesse Hewit

September 14, 2017
8:00 pm
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts

Embodiment Project & Jesse Hewit YBCA Forum Thu, Sep 14, 8PM Fri, Sep 22, 8PM See more at Embodiment Project is a street dance theater company based in San Francisco. They will use their signature approach to hip hop theater to focus on how citizenship can be denied and slowly stripped away through structural racism, generational trauma, and mass incarceration asking "Who gets to be a citizen, and for how long?" Jesse Hewit is a performance and dance artist based in San Francisco. Hewit will enact a physical conversation about citizenship, where humans are merely a portion of the environment and the concept of citizenship is authored by the spirits of the objects in the room, the ghosts of the location, and the impulse of time and space. Citizenship is broken, and its guts are now up for inspection. Part of: TRANSFORM FEST Sep 14 -- Sep 23 2017 Transform is YBCA's exciting new performance festival. Each fall and spring, we will convene leading contemporary artists for a provocative showcase of dance, music, and theater that can only happen at YBCA. For Transform Fest Fall 2017, YBCA engaged nine prolific Bay Area dance companies and choreographers to respond to the provocation, "Why Citizenship?" in one of YBCA's most ambitious dance productions ever.
