Tony Conrad: Completely in the Present

October 4, 2017
7:00 pm
Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive

As part of our Alternative Visions 2017 film series, we are screening Tony Conrad: Completely in the Present. "It's hard to imagine a better tribute. . . . Conrad had an infectious sense of mischief and a disdain for any kind of authority, and just spending time listening to him talk is a joy." JASON COFFMAN, DAILY GRINDHOUSE Shot over two decades, this playful portrait captures Conrad's radical and creative life as an influential artist, musician, and teacher. An early member of the Velvet Underground, he is also known for his work with Karlheinz Stockhausen and La Monte Young. He recorded the soundtrack to Jack Smith's Flaming Creatures and his first film, The Flicker, is a landmark of avant-garde cinema, composed entirely of alternating black and white images.
