Tiny Splendor & Friends
Classic Cars West Gallery is pleased to announce “Tiny Splendor & Friends”, an immersive show of prints, zines, installation and more. With an opening on May 4th during the First Fridays/ Oakland Art Murmur festivities, and a closing reception with Lower Grand Radio on June 29th, the Tiny Splendor crew is sure to amaze with the sheer quantity and vibrancy of their collected creations.
The two-month show will feature a free-standing zine habitat, Wonder Emporium vending machine, and a group mural by a star-studded crew of Tiny Splendor members and conspirators Jeff Cheung, Anjelica Colliard, Lena Gustafson, Ari Bird, Minnie Pham, David Ryan, Sanaa Khan, Max Stadnik, and Cynthia Navarro. The diehard zinester and the DIY greenhorn alike will find inspiration in the creative camaraderie that make this collective so powerful.
Founded in 2012 in Berkeley, Tiny Splendor’s original mission was to create fun-sized alternative gallery spaces with a traveling gallery and fold-up zine shop. Since then, they’ve expanded with a permanent risograph studio in Berkeley and a sister studio in Los Angeles. Painstaking precision and a playful spirit make the Tiny Splendor folk an ideal mix of total pros and total sweethearts. Add to that their collaborations with Unity Press, 70’s punk photographer John Roberts, o Parisian illustrator Melek Zertal, and it is no wonder Tiny Splendor is known across California, with popups and workshops as far as Japan, Germany and Mexico. Through self-publishing their own work and that of artists they admiretheir aim is to foster a love for the tangible, printed page, and to show others that it is possible to create meaningful, approachable art outside the confines of institutions. Their community print shop offers workshops and print resources geared towards making self-publishing accessible and affordable.
