The Rabbles + Joanna Barbera + Galleon's Loop WED ? FEBRUARY 7, 2018 Doors: 7:00 pm / Show: 8:00 pm $7.00 / 21+ The Rabbles: The Rabbles are an eclectic rock band from San Francisco founded in 2003. They play a pastiche of styles influenced by 60's psychedelia, 70's, 80's and 90's underground post-punk and various art and noise rock. The band has recorded 5 DIY albums, Rabble Music (2004), Rabble Rabble (2008), Rabbylon (2009), Dabble (2010) and How We Roll (2012). Each is a unique collection of curios spanning lush pop to abrasive dissonance. The members of The Rabbles have been a part of San Francisco's music scene for the past two decades in the bands Static Faction, Aerosol Species, Blue Gum Art, Shmoogie, Ghost Echoes, and The Love X Nowhere. Joanna Barbera: Joanna's 2017 EP, IMAGO, is a powerful, prose-filled journey into the divine. Titled from the process of idealizing an image of a loved one, especially a child thinking of a parent, the album explores transforming relationships, false images of admirers, and projecting long-held feelings and needs onto lovers. As long as Joanna has been writing music, her obsession with the mystical and with personal pilgrimage has shown through. Born in Hudson Valley, NY, Joanna has lived in San Francisco, Maui, London, Arizona, and Austin before coming to Nashville. While in Texas, she independently produced and released two albums, 2009's Carnival Beginning and 2013's Forget. She's shared the stage with the likes of Sharon Van Etten, Mindy Smith and Melissa Ferrick. Her songs have been featured on Austin KUTX, on MTV and NBC, as well as on Poland's hit soap opera Na Wspolnej. Galleon's Loop: The members of Galleon's Loop hail from far and wide. This merging of East and West Coast musicians have inspirations ranging from Jaco to Police, King Krimson to Jimi Page, this quartet shares a love of rock and jazz, with punk and world beat derivations. Cristian is the band's primary writer and covers guitar and vocals. He started performing and recording music at 12 years old. Later, he attended UC Berkeley to study poetry. A Berkeley based keyboardist with a trumpet up his sleeve, Scott "Sven" Vento played with Planet Rio and Lustinga, and is currently a member of the legendary South African band Zulu Spear. He cut his teeth in LA at CSUN and UCLA, appearing with Steve Vai, Gary Willis, and Brad Dutz in the band Media. New York bassist Roberto Zimmerman toured around Europe with the Gemini Dance Theatre, an Afro Cuban dance ensemble based in Western New York. He wove magic into the bands Gilding the Lily and the Harvey Cartel, where he met Oaklander percussionist Chad Norris. Chad is steeped in funk and fusion, with an awe of all that is 80s rock. His bliss is building interactive music walls with children and playing djembe rhythms. Ziggy from the Meters once urged Chad to "keep on playin" when he was a fledgling drummer. Galleon's Loop has a deliberately rounded sound that mixes rock and jazz with a focus on story telling. Venue Information: Ivy Room 860 San Pablo Ave Albany, CA, 94706
