Bring your poems, verses, spoken word pieces and prose to share at our Teen Open Mic, hosted by Vice Oakland Youth Poet Laureate Samuel Getachew! Featuring special guest performance by: RISE Next Gen Voices—RISE is an Oakland-based a cappella group made up of high school-age singers from around the Bay Area and led by Lisa Forkish, renowned a cappella arranger and director. Singers in RISE learn and create challenging contemporary a cappella repertoire with a social conscience. Open mic sign up begins at 7pm. First seven poets/writers who sign up are guaranteed a spot in the open mic. Open mic begins at 7:30pm. Must be 19 years or younger to sign up. Including: Music spun by DJ XCAIROCITOSX Tiny bookmaking activities for all! FREE pizza for teens! Date: February 1st, 2019 Time: 7-9pm Location: Chapter 510 & The Dept. of Make Believe, 2301 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, Ca, 94612 We are on Telegraph Ave at the heart of First Friday which makes parking a challenge.
