SJCO Presents Alexander Boyer, Tenor and Coleman Itzkoff, Cellist

May 21, 2017
7:00 pm
Trianon Theatre, 72 N. 5th St. San Jose CA 95112

SJCO is pleased to announce a three-year collaboration with the Merola Opera Program of San Francisco, introducing alumni of the program in performance for the South Bay. The May concert of each SJCO season in 2018-20 will feature a Merola Artist along with the Klein Competition winner from that year, in a full orchestral program that also invites our SJCO Senior Youth Orchestra musicians to participate in the second half, side-by-side with the professional orchestra. The collaboration is a first for both organizations, and represents a unique opportunity for audiences to experience artists who are emerging as dazzling professionals in their fields. This first offering features tenor Alexander Boyer, most recently seen as Eunuch/Stone in San Francisco Opera’s world premiere of Bright Sheng’s Dream of the Red Chamber. Mr. Boyer made his debut with SFO in 2015-16, appearing as El Remendado in Bizet’s Carmen. He will perform Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel. The concert also features breathtaking cellist Coleman Itzkoff, winner of the 2016 Klein Competition, playing C.P.E. Bach’s Cello Concerto in A Major, To top it off, the concert will also feature works by Chen Yi, Beethoven, and a piece by the winner of the 2017 Allen Strange Memorial Composition Prize, entitled I’ll Meet You There, by Jason A. Bond. This is a “we knew them when” moment made possible by a shared vision of Merola and SJCO, combining the energy, passion and talent of artists poised to enter the ranks of world-class musicians.
