Shai Maestro is well-known for his incredible piano skills. Although a student of classical piano as a youngster in his native Israel, he grew up entranced by the recordings of Oscar Peterson, especially The Gershwin Songbook album. Maestro credits Peterson's keyboard wizardry for inspiring him to delve deeper into the world of jazz. When offered a full scholarship to the Berklee School of Music, he turned it down to join Avishai Cohen's trio. During his five years with Cohen, Maestro was also performing with the jazz elite of New York: John Patitucci, Donny McCaslin, Scott Colley, and many other top musicians. Since 2011, Maestro has been leading his own groups and receiving much critical acclaim for his energetic and insightful approach to music. For this performance he is joined by bassist Jorge Roeder.
