Peralta CSUEB Partners Party

May 20, 2017
2:30 pm
Peralta Hacienda Historical Park

Walk, listen, speak and explore! Immerse yourself in the cultural chemistry of Fruitvale today, and its fascinating past as you walk on Peralta Hacienda's Historic Core, step into the fabled Peralta House and chat with three dynamic thinkers: Professors Linda Ivey, Carlos Salomon and Albert Gonzalez. Gentrification is sweeping through Fruitvale and the East Bay. Ivey is seeking to map and celebrate locally-owned businesses and community organizations that represent the vibrant and engaged communities of this unique area and would like to hear your perspectives as long-time and just-arrived Fruitvale residents. Salomon is documenting Fruitvale's Immigration Stories in an Archive of Living History. And Gonzalez is peering underground at the historical artifacts left behind long ago. Salomon, Ivey and Gonzalez will walk the site, share their discoveries, and hear your ideas about Immigration, gentrification and the East Bay's deep archaeology at an interactive event at Peralta Hacienda Historical Park, a community cultural incubator, on May 20, 2:30 PM -5:30 PM. See the digital maps of Fruitvale's cultural assets Ivey's students assembled on a digital map, and in videos about Fruitvale's commercial, culinary and cultural assets. Hear the amazing interviews of immigrants and activists, such as Chicana activist Olga Talamante, made in Carlos Salomon's Living History Workshop. Explore the website archiving these stories. Walk with Gonzalez to explore excavation units his students are making in his Archaeological Fieldwork class and learn about what happened here during the rancho era from Native and Peralta perspectives. Cal State East Bay and Peralta Hacienda Historical Park began partnering in January 2017. This is the first of a yearly event to showcase the fruits of the partnership. Peralta Hacienda is located at 2465 34th Avenue in Oakland. Visit for details or call 510-532-9142. Presented by Friends of Peralta Hacienda Historical Park
