Nicholas Phan, tenor: San Francisco Performances

March 22, 2017
6:30 pm
Hotel Rex

San Francisco Performances' popular Wednesday night Salon concerts spotlight fabulous talent in the casual and intimate setting of the Hotel Rex located at 562 Sutter Street. Reminiscent of the arts and literary salons of 1930s San Francisco when artists performed in intimate spaces for a small group of friends, the Salon Series artists talk about the music they perform, sharing insights into how programs are developed and how their careers are formed. Audiences learn about music in a convivial atmosphere where questions and discussion are encouraged. These informal, after-work events last just one hour and drinks can be purchased in the hotel bar and enjoyed during the concert. All concerts take place at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights. Tenor Nicholas Phan performs selections from his recently-released fourth solo album. Gods & Monsters is an expression of the acclaimed lyric tenor's life-long fascination with myths and legends, and a testament to this singer's great gift for storytelling through the medium of song. Phan joins forces with pianist Robert Mollicone to explore this thematic program of Lieder by the great Romantic composers of the Germanic tradition: songs recounting tall tales of the godly, the gallant and the grotesque-the fantastical and the fearsome.
