Music Box Presents: The Green Door, Killer Kaya, & My Dallas Teens at The Ivy Room! It's Memorial Day Weekend.. so ya can dance all night to some psychedelic tunes and sleep in the next day!

Going to be a groovy lil' night... see ya there!

The Green Door

Formed in San Francisco in 2008, The Green Door is comprised of Mike Carnahan on lead vocals and guitar, Reese Abell on bass, Evan Wardell on guitar, Vanessa Wolter on percussion, and Devin Triplett on electric organ.

The Green Door started as a project between Wolter and Carnahan, as they began writing and recording a series of songs blending the raw, desert sounds reminiscent of Spaghetti Westerns with the uncompromising rhythms of 1960s garage and acid rock. The result is a harmonic force of American myth and counter-culture ideology, best described as “Western psychedelic rock.”

Imagine wild 1960s rock 'n' roll driving through the desert to meet the analog spirits of psychedelia. With the December 15th 2017 release of their new album 'Wolf In The Fold', the sound of The Green Door continues to evolve. However, the approach remains the same.

The name “The Green Door” stands as an image which beckons the observer to question what’s behind and, ultimately, beyond. The music of The Green Door, with its wild and evocative themes of the mythic West juxtaposed with formidable riffs and stampeding rhythms, is an experience that calls the listener to strike out to the badlands, set up camp, and rock out with the ghosts that linger there in the reverb of a bygone age.

Killer Kaya

Killer Kaya is a six piece psychedelic and funk outfit based out of Santa Barbara, California. Named after a rather large house cat, Killer Kaya has a 60’s era psychedelic sound with funk and soul elements and is composed of Apoorva Chiplunkar on vocals, Zach Rengert on guitar/drums, Eric Engel on drums/guitar, Alex Pavellas on bass, Cory Lund on trumpet and keys, and Josh Sheltzer on saxophone. The lovechild of scientists and hippies, Killer Kaya is reminiscent of the days where flower children roamed free and incense swirled about in whimsical billows. Sun soaked melodic threads run through Killer Kaya’s rainbow prism of sound, evocative of bands like Janis Joplin and Big Brother and The Holding Company and Jefferson Airplane.

Killer Kaya released their first EP titled Cigarette Echolocation in 2015 and their first full length album, 29 Lives in August 2017. Having played throughout the Central Coast and Los Angeles areas, Killer Kaya has also played with notable musicians like funk legend Shuggie Otis and Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Having made their festival debut at Starry Nites Festival alongside acts like The Kills, The Dandy Warhols, Cat Power, and Teenage Fanclub this March, Killer Kaya also performed at the 2017 Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival and with SF based rockers Gabby Lala & Snow Angel through the Central Coast and Northern California areas in fall 2017. Killer Kaya will be recording new material in early 2018 with Tommy Dietrick (formerly of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Sky Parade) at Skylab Studios this Spring.

My Dallas Teens

My Dallas Teens play rock and roll. Inspired by the headspace of San Francisco and elsewhere during 60’s & the drone of feedback and tremolo from the 80’s & 90’s. As well as from many of the current bands and feelings coming up all around us.

We’ve been fortunate enough to share stages with amazing acts such as The Allan Parsons Project, The Kills, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Cat Power, Sky Parade, The Astroid #4, Spindrift, and many other incredible acts.

We recorded our debut album “GRADUATION” with Tommy Dietrick (Sky Parade and formerly of The Brian Jonestown Massacre) at Skylab Studios in Joshua Tree, CA.
