Lean Design, Construction and Facility Management in theory and practice
Prof. Iris D. Tommelein of the University of California, Berkeley and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Antje Junghans of the Institute of Facility Management at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences will present how their special areas of interest in Lean Design and Construction and Facility Management contribute to a more sustainable and energy efficient built environment. Prof. Tommelein and Prof. Junghans will explain innovative perspectives on Lean Management, and share experiences regarding how Lean Thinking can be applied in the area of FM. In order to meet customers’ requirements, an integrative approach is required that takes all relevant stakeholders into account. As an example on how theory was applied into practice can be visited at the first Net Zero Energy Building in San Francisco, which is the office of DPR. Dr. Andrew Arnold (VueOps) will guide a tour of the Net Zero DPR San Francisco office. He will share insights from the work of VueOps, a fully owned subsidiary of DPR, that works with building owners to develop FM requirements for projects and is implementing an FM platform that integrates information from documents, models, asset management, and building performance and analytics systems to create building knowledge that helps owners realize sustainability goals in practice.
