Kawayan Folk Arts presents "Dalan"
In celebration of its tenth year, Filipino non-profit organization, Kawayan Folk Arts, presents “Dálan”, a live theatrical story of mythological heritage of the Philippines featuring cultural music and dance at the Montgomery Theater in downtown San Jose on October 7, 2017.
Guests will be transported to a mythical world of Dálan where a priestess, a witch, and a community of spirits awaken in different parts of the land after a disaster divides them. Follow their journey of self-discovery as they face their fears to return home.
Like Kawayan’s previous shows, Makiling (2010) and Kadiliman (2015), Dálan tells its story through traditional Filipino instruments, cultural motifs, and steps of ethnic and folk dances from the Philippines. Families will also enjoy dances featuring the graceful pantomime from the Islamic Southern Philippines known as Pangalay, the exciting stomps and rhythms of the northern mountainous region of the island of Luzon, as well as ceremonial movements and deep colors from Philippines' indigenous interior known as Lumad.
“This story touches on Filipino culture and our cast of new and old artists are excited to bring earth, wind, water, and fire to life on stage“ exclaims Kawayan Folk Arts Executive Director, Rene Payomo Jr.
Tickets go on sale Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at www.kawayanfolkarts.org. We invite you to experience beauty of the Filipino culture and to celebrate 10 years of Kawayan Folk Arts in the South Bay Area!
