Katharine Harer and Katayoon Zandvikili read their poetry
Katharine Harer and Katayoon Zandvikili will read at 7 pm on Friday, October 13th, at Nefeli Caffe, 1854 Euclid Avenue, a little north of Hearst, in Berkeley, as part of the Last Word Reading Series. Cafe phone is 510-841-6374. There is also an open reading. Katharine Harer's poetry has been published in six small press collections. A volume of new and selected poems, Jazz & Other Hot Subjects, came out in 2016 from bombshelter press in Los Angeles. Katharine’s work has been published widely, most recently in Spillway and Miramar literary magazines. Her non&ction projects include a book about women who played pro baseball, a travel/memoir about Pablo Neruda, and travel-inspired personal essays. Her essay, "Delle Donne", appears in Best Women’s Travel Writing 2016. Katharine often performs her poetry with jazz musicians. She teaches at Skyline Community College in San Bruno where she is Co-Vice President of the teachers’ union. Katayoon Zandvikili's literary background includes the University of Georgia Press Contemporary Poetry Prize for her volume of poetry, Deer Table Legs, and a Pushcart Prize awarded the book's title poem in 2000. Her work has appeared in American Poetry: The Next Generation, A World Between: Poems, Short Stories, and Essays by Iranian-Americans, and many other anthologies, and published in journals including The Massachusetts Review, Hawai'i Review, Rattapallax, and Tiferet Journal. She has served as a panelist at Squaw Valley Writers Conference and Associated Writing Program, and has read at the original Cody's Books in Berkeley, amongst other venues in the Bay Area, as well as at Beyond Baroque in Los Angeles and the Bowery Poetry Club in New York. Katayoon has also written a memoir, My Beautiful Impostor: A Story of Persia, Exile, and Faith. She walks with her sainted dog in the Oakland hills where they love to dream on life, film, paintings, conversations, all the fun, good stuff. The Last Word Reading Series is presented by Nefeli Caffe, a cafe/restaurant that serves dinners, tapas, coffee drinks, beer, wine, and more in a beautiful and colorful atmosphere.
