Grit and Gold at Ivy Room
Grit and Gold at Ivy Room Grit and Gold is an alt country rock band from Oakland, CA. With all the pieces in place, they deliver stories of pleasure, pain, heartache, addiction and love learned the hard way. With a heavy rock sound, a slightly-punk attitude and an introspection reserved for the lone wolves, these aren't your old fashioned cowboys. The Bitter Diamonds were born when Charles Verlin finished a thermos of day old coffee in the parking lot of the Say When Casino in McDermitt, NV. Having lost the entirety of cash from his wallet, as well as the better part of the change in his ashtray, he pulled his truck onto the blacktop in search of a liquor store that would cash a payroll check. Mike Hellman is an independent country/Americana artist from Houston, TX (though he currently resides in Northern CA). His style has the distinct imprints of Waylon Jennings and other home state heroes of his, but his style is anything but cliche. With musical influences that include country, blues, and folk, and lyrical themes that deal honestly with all aspects of the human condition, his songs bring originality and substance to a genre that often seems done to death.
