Elaine Brown, former Chairman of the Black Panther Party, Presents to Rotary Club of Oakland

Elaine Brown,former Chairman and Minister of Information of the Black Panther Party, will be speaking to the Oakland Rotary at their weekly lunch program. Guests must RSVP in advance to Oakland Rotary: 510-451-2120 x 10. Brown is the author of “A Taste of Power” (Pantheon, 1992,now an E-book) and “The Condemnation of Little 8” (Beacon Press, 2002). Under a new agreement with de Passe Jones Entertainment, Elaine is in discussions with a number of film distributors for the rights to A Taste of Power. She is the Editor of “Messages to Our Brothers and Sisters on the Other Side of the Wolf”, a collection of autobiographical essays by black prisoners in New Mexico, published by the New Mexico Department of African American Affairs (2007). Elaine is CEO of the non-profit organization “Oakland & the World Enterprises, Inc.”, launching and sustaining for-profit businesses for cooperative-ownership by formerly incarcerated and other people facing monumental social barriers to economic survival. The organization has acquired a 3/4-acre property in West Oakland, California, where it has established its first business, an urban farm, and is developing the property further for other businesses and affordable housing.
