Capacitor / Jodi Lomask: Left to Her Own Devices YBCA Theater Thu, May 17, 7:30PM Fri, May 18, 7:30PM Sat, May 19, 7:30PM Sun, May 20, 7PM See more at An exploration of 20 years of Capacitor's signature synthesis of visual magic and raw athleticism. Capacitor is a dance, cirque, and sculpture company founded by Artistic Director Jodi Lomask. The work often engages scientists to create performances and installations about the natural world. The company's visually-stunning experiences are delivered on abstract structures by athletic dancers, acrobats, aerialists, and contortionists. Lomask designs structures out of steel, bungee, fiberglass, and wood, and her choreography unites unique characters with distinctive movement for Capacitor's signature synthesis of visual magic and raw athleticism. Celebrating the company's 20 years anniversary, Left to Her Own Devices is a distillation of all of the company's work to-date, focusing on physical structures--which have essentially been oppressive problems for the performers to overcome--to explore the theme of liberation. Part of: Transform Fest Spring 2018 May 09--20 2018 Transform, YBCA's new festival, celebrates the power of ideas through transformative performances. Each fall and spring, we will convene leading contemporary artists for a provocative showcase of dance, music, and theater that can only happen at YBCA. This spring, our festival is built around the question: "Where is our public imagination?" An international spectrum of performance from eclectic and progressive musical presentations (Black Women Rock!, DJ Spooky, Mark de Clive-Lowe), visually stunning dance (Capacitor, Printz Dance Project), and innovative, interdisciplinary theater driven works (Roger Guenveur Smith with Camp Santo, Okwui Okpokwasili, Lars Jan/Early Morning Opera).
