Bridgewatch Thanksgiving Day 2018 (Suicide Prevention Golden Gate Bridge)
The Bridgewatch Angels will dedicate Thanksgiving Day to saving lives on the Golden Gate Bridge. We are seeking compassionate volunteers to greet everyone with smiles while bringing hope to those feeling depressed and suicidal. Our primary focus will be to engage individuals on the bridge who are walking alone, displaying negative body posture, or lingering mid-span.
The Golden Gate Bridge remains the number one suicide destination in the world. There were 22 confirmed suicides from Jan-Sept this year and 142 came to the bridge to end their lives, but were stopped by the CHP, Bridge District Police, and the Bridgewatch Angels volunteers.
Thanksgiving Day Bridgewatch will be from 10am to 3pm. Register by visiting the Eventbrite link below. Please include your email address so we can communicate important logistical information with you concerning meeting location, times, parking, rideshare options, and what to bring with you. We will also send you training information.
Volunteer should arrive to the Bridge Cafe (San Francisco Welcome Center) no later than 9:30am. A mandatory orientation will begin promptly at 10am so we ask you to arrive 30 minutes early to park and use the facilities/purchase snacks. The Bridgewatch Angels Trainers will greet you and provide you with the materials you will need.
Prior to registering on Eventbrite, please select "going" on our Facebook event page to receive newsfeed updates with meeting location, times, parking, ride share options, and helpful tips to plan your day with us.
Due to the nature of the work and safety precautions, volunteers MUST be at least 18 years of age
