April and the Extraordinary World Sun, May 28, 2PM Dir. Christian Desmares and Franck Ekinci From the creators of Persepolis and the mind of graphic novelist Jacques Tardi comes this riveting sci-fi adventure set in an alternate steampunk universe. Paris, 1941: a family of scientists are on the brink of discovering a powerful longevity serum when a mysterious force abducts them, leaving their young daughter April behind. Ten years later, April lives alone with her intelligent cat, Darwin, and carries on her family's research in secret. She soon finds herself at the center of a shadowy conspiracy, on the run from government agents, bicycle-powered dirigibles, and cyborg rat spies. (2015, 106 min, digital) Part of Cat Power! Felines on Film May 4-Jun 4, 2017 Screening Room "There are few films that are not improved by the presence of a cat." --Anne Billson, The Telegraph Sadly, the Internet Cat Video Festival has been retired, but in its place YBCA presents a curated series of films centered around our furry, friendly, frisky, and occasionally fearsome feline friends. Drawing on a wide range of genres, from horror to Japanese animation, we'll consider the soothing and sometimes otherworldly nature of cats, who maintain their mystery even as they begrudgingly let us love them.
