The opera Alcina, composed by George Frideric Handel, premiered in London in 1735. A complicated tale of sorcery, love and betrayal, the story takes place on the magical island of Alcina and her sister Mogana. Inventing the world in which this gorgeous Baroque opera unfolds - from the first view of the island, to Alcina's palace, to the many complications of cross-dressing lovers meeting in different settings - was a huge and rewarding challenge. The stones of the Crusaders Courtyard in Acre, Israel, on which the video was projected supplied the final element of magic. -Naomie Kremer
